‘No Real Than You Are’ Starts Principal Photography in Sarasota
Sarasota, FL (PRWEB) July 11, 2013 -- Correspondence Films has begun principal photography of the Sarasota-based short film ‘No Real Than You Are’. The film details a fictionalized history of Sarasota’s founding family and a young current day descendant’s downward spiral into opiate addiction.
“I believe that the fundamental role of the storyteller is to provide the raw material for an audience to rediscover the world they occupy,” said director Vincent Dale, whose investigation of Sarasota’s history and present-day prescription drug epidemic has yielded what he considers a wealth of narrative inspiration. United States Attorney for the Southern District of Florida Wifredo A. Ferrer stated in a Justice Department press release that, “According to recent estimates, Florida prescribes ten times more oxycodone pills than all other states combined."
The production crew includes award-winning writer/director Vincent Dale, Los Angeles based cinematographer Sebastian Baron, NYC production designer Tola Brennan, producer Arash Zandi of the Ringling College of Art and Design Digital Filmmaking department, and executive producers CJ Czaia and James Bonutto.
The cast is comprised of Audrey Katherine Scherer as Sasha Whitaker, Sam North as Calvin, David Abolafia as Dr Alexander Whitaker, Steve McAllister as William H. Whitaker and Jamie Day as Veronica Whitaker. Lead actress Audrey Scherer, who plays the tragically entangled Sasha Whitaker, connects with the film's perspective of Sarasota. "It's so real," says Scherer, "I know people who have lived these experiences, and what's happening in this story needs to be brought to light." Over 70 actors from the Sarasota area auditioned for roles in “No Real Than You Are.’
Vincent’s intention is to produce the story as a feature-length film after the short film competes in the festival circuit. The current production was financed through a successful Kickstarter campaign and the support of Dr. Gary and Elizabeth Kompothecras and the Sarasota Chalk Festival. The Wave Grill and Yoder's Restaurant has graciously provided meals on set. The production is seeking additional crew meal donations for shooting through July 15th and monetary donations for post production and color correction. Significant support for the production has come from the Sarasota community and the Ringling College of Art and Design. Regional shooting locations include One105, The Flow Factory, Ohana Horse Rescue, Herald Square and Cafe Gabbiano.
