‘Ohana Supports Women’s Health Awareness in Hilo, Hawaii
Honolulu, Hawaii (PRWEB) October 25, 2013 -- ‘Ohana Health Plan, a statewide provider of managed care services for Hawaii’s government-sponsored health care programs, recently joined Hui Malama Ola Na ‘Oiwi, a local nonprofit organization, to provide Hilo-area women with information and services to help improve their health and overall well-being during the 13th annual Ladies’ Night Out.
Ladies’ Night Out is held in conjunction with National Women’s Health Month, and this year’s event served approximately 500 women, many of whom are low-income or facing health challenges. In addition to receiving valuable health information, the women received personal care services aimed at building self-esteem. ‘Ohana’s employees supported the event by collecting more than 1,000 donated cosmetic items and by volunteering at the event.
“‘Ohana is pleased to support Hui Malama Ola Na ‘Oiwi and its efforts to raise health awareness to help women in the community lead better, healthier lives,” said Wendy Morriarty, state president, ‘Ohana Health Plan.
This is the third year that ‘Ohana has participated in Hui Malama Ola Na ‘Oiwi’s Ladies’ Night Out. Incorporated in 1991, Hui Malama Ola Na ‘Oiwi provides a variety of health enhancement services to Native Hawaiians through advocacy, accessibility and education. Services include facilitating access to health care through outreach, referrals, transportation and health screenings.
