‘Outside the Game’ helps NFL, NBA, MLB, MLS, NHL players “do good, better” through philanthropic opportunities
Phoenix, Ariz (PRWEB) February 11, 2015 -- Ask any professional athlete and they’ll tell you one of the most rewarding aspects of playing the sport they love is the ability to give back to charities that relate to them in some meaningful way. Phoenix based business, Outside the Game, learned through research that players who aren’t giving back to philanthropic organizations aren’t doing so because they don’t want to, but rather don’t know where to start.
“Determining a cause that a player is passionate about, and identifying a charitable organization they want to support can often be extremely intimidating for a player,” said Outside the Game CEO Denise Wittstock. “We continue the efforts of team community relations staff by providing athletes the individual education and guidance they need for their personal, charitable project(s).”
Outside the Game is a full service sports philanthropy consultation agency offering player education, management, partnership development and events for its clients. Initially approached by NFL staff to design a program that helps educate players about the world of philanthropy, Wittstock quickly assembled a team of like-minded, experienced sports enthusiast/philanthropy experts to take on the task.
“Simply put, there’s a need,” said Wittstock. “There’s a need for charities to gain the support that a well-known athlete’s face can bring to an organization, and there’s a need for players to learn about the many ways they can give their time and money, then find those charitable opportunities without feeling overwhelmed by the process. Our aim is to forge those partnerships for the players so they can focus on what’s important to them.”
The team from Outside the Game will be on hand as National Basketball Association Alumni serve lunch to those less fortunate at St. Vincent de Paul in Phoenix, located at 1075 West Jackson Street, Phoenix, Arizona 85007, on Feb. 16. This effort allows retired players to remain All-Stars in their community, during the 2015 NBA All-Star Break.
They will also be supporting Scott Williams, NBA Alum as he speaks at Jimmy Walker’s “Never Give Up” weekly event at St. Vincent de Paul that afternoon. The outreach is held weekly to provide encouragement to those less fortunate, sharing stories of overcoming challenges by ‘never giving up.’
