@Pay Introduces New Secure Text-to-Give for Mobile Fundraising
Albuquerque, NM (PRWEB) August 03, 2015 -- @Pay LLC, an express donation technology company, today announced the introduction of its secure Text-to-Give that protects organizations from SMS spoofing fraud. The announcement was made at the Assemblies of God 56th General Council held in Orlando, Florida.
A recent study published by the mGive Foundation reported that Text-to-Give has become the preferred means of donating to non-profit, faith-based, and political organizations. Unfortunately, as Text-to-Give gains popularity, malicious hackers will start exploiting the vulnerabilities inherent in text messaging as a means of attacking – not the donors – but the organizations that the donors support.
This vulnerability is commonly known as “SMS Spoofing”. Websites and mobile apps abound that enable pranksters to send text messages to victims and make the messages appear as if they are coming from someone else. Fraudsters can use SMS spoofing to simulate donations from givers to organizations using commercial Text-to-Give services.
The purpose of SMS spoofing for donation fraud is to damage the reputation of the organization receiving the donation. Most non-profit organizations work on shoe string budgets. They rely on donations to continue their operations. Any impact to their ability to receive donations threatens their very existence. Charge disputes and charge-backs from spoofed donations increase the interchange fees that organizations pay – or worse yet – cause them to lose their ability to process credit card transactions altogether.
@Pay’s new Secure Text-to-Give technology protects organizations and their givers from SMS spoofing donation fraud. It implements a secure 2-factor authentication process that is a combination of both SMPP and SMTP protocols, and is virtually seamless to the donor. Best of all, it done using the apps that are already included with all smartphones regardless of manufacturer or operating system.
"We are really excited with our release of @Pay Text to Give, our 2-factor authentication via SMPP and SMTP can make mobile donations secure," said John Killoran, President and CEO of @Pay, "It's only a matter of time when hackers will start exploiting the vulnerabilities of traditional text-to-give. Our solution preserves the trust between donors and the organizations they support by making it simple, easy, safe AND secure to give on any mobile device."
