“Post Life” Filmmakers To Launch IndieGoGo Campaign
Los Angeles, CA (PRWEB) November 17, 2015 -- A film that spotlights the struggles of postpartum from an African American woman’s perspective will launch an IndieGoGo campaign beginning on Wednesday, November 18. It was announced today by its filmmakers. IndieGoGo has been a crowdfunding go-to for filmmakers around the world to support their films fundraising efforts and to build audiences.
Post Life, written, directed and produced by a team of minority women, delves into what happens after a tormented mother tragically loses her three-month old daughter. The film is directed by Salli Richardson-Whitfield, known for films Stitchers and I Am Legend, is executive produced by Nina Yang Bongiovi (Dope, Fruitvale Station) and written and produced by Nikki Love (Pass the Light, The Last Fall).
Erica Ash (Survivor’s Remorse, Real Husbands of Hollywood) stars as Cheryl McIntosh, a woman with postpartum psychosis driven to murder her own infant daughter, who is recently paroled to her old neighborhood and finds she is ostracized by her very own community. Labeled a "baby killer,” McIntosh finds it difficult to start over and regain some semblance of normality in her life. Unsure of her future, she begins a journey on the tumultuous road to get readjusted to society and hopes for a new life, but these hopes are shattered as her past begins to take over.
"I wanted to tell the story of life after such a traumatic event,” said Love. “How do you start over or get your life back on track after you have killed your own child? The aftermath of this mental illness is what intrigues me. This isn't just about a film, but about awareness of perinatal mood disorders, specifically postpartum psychosis.”
Filmmakers also announced that “Post Life” is now officially affiliated with Postpartum Support International, an organization dedicated to offering training, resources and most notably, support for women dealing with such pregnancy and postpartum issues.
