‘Preachers of LA’ star Deitrick Haddon discusses his controversial storyline and hit new show ‘Fix My Choir’ on Maria Menounos’ Black Hollywood Live.
Hollywood, CA (PRWEB) November 26, 2014 -- Multi-talented performer Detrick Haddon discusses why he feels people can't get enough of Preachers of LA. “The show is amazing, because never before has a show like this been done. One where preachers open up about their lives. Preachers are very guarded individuals, because we need you to think that we have everything all together. We say all the right things; we don’t have any emotions, any issues, any cousins that are on drugs, aunties that are selling stuff. We want to make others believe that we don’t have a life other than that of the pulpit, telling people what to do. That’s why I think the show is doing so well because people are like wow; this is not supposed to happen. Our pastors have never shown us this, and so I think it’s a wonderful thing."
When asked about criticisms about his controversial storyline, Haddon said “I was in Los Angeles waiting for my divorce to be final. I had gotten my beautiful wife pregnant before my divorce was final. I met Dominique after I left my first wife. I was at home saying once this mess hits the fan people are going to judge me and run me down. I mean they’re going to say that gospel singer, he did this and he did that. He is weak, he is fake, he shouldn’t preach, he doesn’t have the right to do anything."
Haddon also spoke about his relationship with co-star Ron Gibson. “It’s tough dealing with him. I mean you have to really be on the same page as him, in order to have a real relationship with him. We just have two different opinions about a lot of things. We are not running buddies, but I have a respect for Bishop Gibson.”
He also gave insight on some of the challenges on Fix My Choir. “The common thread across the board with all the choirs (not just black church choirs), is the lack of respect for one another and other singers within the choir. That’s the common thread. It’s hard to get people on the same page. When you’re dealing with a lot of talented people, a lot of gifted singers all in one group that’s a tough thing to do.”
Music has always been his passion, Haddon gives his fans a taste of what to expect on his new album. "I’m going to make a record that everyone can appreciate. I am definitely not losing who I am. I’m a gospel singer. But it’s ok to expand the brand to connect with other people who may not believe what you believe. There’s going to be some songs on the record that are not trying to convince or convict anybody, just going to make good music so that people can enjoy it. I think that’s the next level for us to find a way to engage people without beating people over the head. I think that is what we’ve done with “Preachers of LA” and “Fix My Choir."
