“The Dream Lives” Announces Speaker: Joy Reid, Saturday, January 17th, 2015
Columbus, Ga (PRWEB) December 31, 2014 -- The Mayor’s Commission on Unity, Diversity and Prosperity announces that Joy Reid, the host of “The Reid Report” on MSNBC, will take the platform as keynote speaker at this year’s Second Annual MLK: “The Dream Lives” Legacy commemoration.
Reid is the former Managing Editor of TheGrio.com, a daily online news and opinion platform devoted to delivering stories and perspectives that reflect and affect African-American audiences. Reid graduated from Harvard University in 1991 with a concentration in film, and is a 2003 Knight Center for Specialized Journalism fellow. She currently resides in Brooklyn with her husband and family.
“Our object is to get thoughtful, fresh insight into the cultural diversity issues that continue to challenge us long after Dr. King set a vision for a better more inclusive humanity. Joy Reid also has a broad appeal with younger audiences and we look forward to hearing her thoughts on the continuing relevance of Dr. King’s Dream for future generations,” says Mayor Teresa Tomlinson.
The mission of the Mayor’s Commission on Unity, Diversity and Prosperity is to create a community where every person is valued and presented with equal access to opportunities. The event will allow the community to bring citizens together of all ages, races and walks of life. This event will unify the community and provide opportunities to appropriately honor a man who gave his life in the quest for equality and prosperity for all.
