"Unspoken Courage" Pays Tribute to Heroes Of 9/11
Glendale, CA (PRWEB) September 10, 2013 -- "Unspoken Courage" carries a message that is as timely today as it was in the months following 9/11. Created in the aftermath of 9/11 by world renowned water color artist, Pomm, the painting was chosen to be part of the three-story Memorial Wall at the FDNY training academy (a tribute to the FDNY 9/11 Fallen Heroes).
Pomm reflected today on her plans to continue to donate to the 9/11 fund and also The One Fund (which was set up to help those affected by the Boston Marathon bombing). "I created 'Unspoken Courage' as a response not only to the tragedy of 9/11, but also to show our respect and gratitude to the ordinary people who display such selfless courage and honor to help others in times of great need. We saw such courage displayed again this past spring in Boston. I painted this painting from my heart, and the emotions it evokes are truly timeless. The unity that we all feel as humankind in response to such events is what carries us forward and helps us to create a future."
"Unspoken Courage" is currently part of a private collection in Washington DC. The companion piece, "We Believe in Peace," will be available for viewing at Pomm's Studio, located in Glendale, CA. A Special Open House will be held on Saturday, Sept. 14, 2013 from 1 pm - 5 pm. At this time, limited edition prints of Unspoken Courage will be available and proceeds will continue to benefit the 9/11 Fund. "A portion of the proceeds from the sale of my Special Edition of Unspoken Courage will be donated to the 9/11 fund," says Pomm. "The 9/11 fund was started by firefighters working at Ground Zero to enhance our systems of emergency management and preparedness, and to share their skills and lessons learned domestically and with friends and allies the world over."
"Unspoken Courage" was created after long time Glendale resident, Pomm, had traveled to Ground Zero to assist in the relief efforts. "I returned home from New York a changed person. Witnessing the bravery of the firefighters, the cooperation of so many - all working together on whatever needed to be done, sharing the emotions of everyone in the city - was life changing. What amazes me still was the incredible unity that came out of this horrible event. This feeling of unity spread across our nation and even across the world. This was the idea that I wanted to convey through my art."
Working at her studio in Glendale in 2001, Pomm pulled together these images and feelings to create the watercolor which continues to evoke those sentiments. "I wanted people to see courage, honor and unity as the virtues that were born from such a tragic event and that we should continue to strengthen them," says Pomm. "I am very honored that this painting continues to be the inspirational piece that pays tribute to our heroes. "
In the year following the 9/11 tragedy, Pomm returned to New York 35 different times, presenting the painting to many fire stations in New York, including the New York City Fire Museum. Presentations were also made locally in Burbank,Glendale, Riverside, and Victorville. For her efforts, Pomm was made an honorary member of FDNY. Most recently, "Unspoken Courage" was presented to the Fire Station 34 on Del Mar in Pasadena in commemoration of the 10th anniversary of the 9/11 tragedy and in honor of those heroes who are here for us on a daily basis.
"Even though it has been twelve years since the event, in some respects it seems like yesterday," Pomm reflected. "Our world has changed in response to the events of that day. Each year as the anniversary approaches, I really feel the impact again because of all of the memories coming back. I truly feel that as a people and humankind, this 9/11 anniversary puts in perspective what is really valuable -- the care and help we can give each other."
"It helps to also bring back the memory of the unity that was so prevalent, " says Pomm. "I hope that people remember that our enemies are really small, especially when we work together as a team for our human rights. We can win this war against evil because evil is not very big and good always triumphs over evil."
A longtime Human Rights advocate, Pomm been recognized by the Pope in Rome for her touching paintings, "Unspoken Courage" and "We Believe in Peace" which promotes world peace. Pomm is also a founding member of Artists for Human Rights, a group of International Artists dedicated to improve world conditions through art forms. The group is chaired by actress Anne Archer.
