“When is the best time to buy a new ski jacket in the UK? In 30°C degree heat”
(PRWEB UK) 31 July 2013 -- Consumers are changing their shopping habits more than ever due to the Internet, not just by buying more online but by breaking down the traditional seasons for retailers.
This new research, from digital retail marketing specialist Sitelynx, shows how both the Internet and recession are pushing savvy consumers to find what they want, for the price they want to pay, by searching for “skiwear sale” in the heat of the summer.
People who plan ahead for their yearly ski holidays, are now shopping for the best prices on ski and snowboarding gear in the middle of the summer, avoiding the premium prices of the winter season. This activity didn't even happen five years ago, emphasasing the pace of change that retailers have to keep up with.
New data from Google Trends shows the growth of people looking for “ski sale” and “ski jacket” in the middle of summer. The trend is up 33% between 2012 and 2013, contrasting with summer 2010, when nobody was looking for “ski sale”, shows the dynamic changes facing digital retailers.
This "buying forward" trend for online consumers is something that some Skiwear retailers have identified and are accommodating by extending their sales, which would have previously ended in May. Identifying and embracing this trends into your retail strategy are key for successful eCommerce marketing, the additional sales that can be secured during summer can make or break a year's sales plan.
The Internet is changing consumer behaviour and retailers will have to change to match.
