Los Angeles, CA (PRWEB) October 01, 2013 -- The 5th Annual Write of Passage Screenwriting Competition (WP) writer entry deadline is October 8th. “Write of Passage is a mentored competition, designed to encourage new writers to enter the world of film,” said John David Ware, founder of the contest.
The WP purse includes a $1,000 First Prize plus introductions to writer/producers like Luke Schelhaas (“Law and Order,” Smallville”) and Brian Bird (“Not Easily Broken”). Finalist scripts may be made into films for the 168 Film Festival's Write of Passage Showcase. Both writers and mentors receive screen credit if their film is made.
Writer entry fees are $30-45 and writing week for all writers is October 14-21. Screenplay submissions are up to 12 pages and based on a foundational scripture with the theme: “The Gift.” Verse Assignment is Oct. 14th and winners are announced in November. See http://www.168film.com for more info.
According to Founder and Director, John David Ware, “Pairing a writing contest with a film production competition is a dream come true for writers, who will craft positive portrayals of realistic characters in redemptive, thought-provoking stories that honor God.”
Writers may register here and obtain more information here (168film.com).
In the competition, there is a great opportunity for experienced writers interested in a career in Story Development. WP uses “Development Executives” (DE’s) to mentor writers and judge the first round. DE’s read and give notes to a maximum of 6 writers.
“DE’s develop their sense of story and learn how to motivate and encourage a creative people to achieve excellence,” said Ware.
Interested potential DE’s should send resume and references to writeofpassage(at)168project(dot)com. DE’s pay no fee, but they cannot enter the contest as a writer.
Writers and producers may participate in Write of Passage and the 168 Film Project, a creative outlet for more than 750 faith-based short films in 11 years.
