However, some driven by the circumstances of their existence must travel through and be rescued from the Valley of Despair. Dr. Timothy Franklin and his twin brother, Thomas, make the most of the rescues and restore those they rescue to health. Bill and Bob Davis reunite, Bob brings with him the Johnson diaries- the key to unlocking the mysteries of the Johnson twins. The twins, Levi and Eli Johnson, share the same conviction about slavery. Knowing that they must keep their feelings in secret, they communicated only through writing.
The Johnson twins take over the plantation upon the death of their father, freeing 100 slaves and transforming the Johnson Plantation into a haven for escaping slaves. Following the Civil War, the Plantation became a unique orphanage where Black and White children grew up and were educated together. In the 1940's, the Johnson Plantation falls under the control of extreme racists who transform it into a slave state unto itself. Once Bob and Bill Davis expose the slave trafficking, the days of the Johnson Plantation are numbered.
A Story of Twindom showcases Culverhouse’s imagination and keen attention to details. About the Author
Tricia J Culverhouse was deeply affected by the Civil Rights struggle. Her emotional turbulence arose both from the convulsive nature of the struggle and from her own inner conflict about being a native White Southerner from Birmingham, Ala. She has lived blissfully unaware of the conditions under which African-Americans existed. She knew nothing about the rigid system of segregation keeping them in their place as second-class citizens. Her awareness of injustice was only developed when she left the South and moved to Illinois, and later California. The problem became even more complex in her eyes when she studied the United States history.
