A Day of Service will Impact Lives as Orlando Serves
Orlando, Florida (PRWEB) September 11, 2015 -- A day of joyful work will also be a day of hope in Orlando on September 27. Sponsored by First United Methodist Church of Orlando, Orlando Serves incorporates a variety of community service projects that will connect event participants with people in need. More than 100 volunteers will be feeding the homeless, cleaning and stocking a cost-share grocery store, and engaging in games with children at a local shelter.
“We hope that the community will join us for Orlando Serves, an opportunity to reach out and support people across the city who have many diverse needs. Together, we can build relationships, end hunger and show love to our neighbors,” said Carla Cox, Coordinator of Servant Ministries at First United Methodist Church of Orlando.
Volunteers can register at OrlandoServes.org for any of the following projects scheduled throughout the day:
• Christian Service Center lunch service, beginning at 9 a.m.
• Community Food & Outreach Center cost-share grocery store cleaning and organization, three shifts beginning at 10 a.m., 11:30 a.m. and 1:00 p.m.
• Orlando Union Rescue Mission lunch service, beginning at 12:30 p.m.
• Coalition for the Homeless children’s games, beginning at 2 p.m.
• Straight Street Orlando cookie packing and dinner service, beginning at 12 p.m. and 6 p.m.
There is no cost associated with any of the service projects, which are offered in two- or three-hour-long shifts. Volunteers will meet at First United Methodist Church of Orlando at 142 E. Jackson Street for provided transportation to each project site.
Orlando Serves is funded in part by a Rethink Church event grant from United Methodist Communications’ Rethink Church initiative as a way to help local United Methodist churches in their efforts to make a difference in the world. Participants do not have to be affiliated with The United Methodist Church – or any church – to participate.
