A Forever Recovery’s Latest Blog Post Focuses on Common Relapse Triggers Faced by Former Drug and Alcohol Addicts
Battle Creek, MI (PRWEB) April 23, 2014 -- A Forever Recovery, an open-ended drug and alcohol treatment program that gets clients off to a great start and gives them a solid foundation in recovery they can believe in, is focusing on the common relapse triggers in its latest blog post.
“Overcoming addiction is a lasting commitment, and doesn’t end when the recovery process has finished,” commented A Forever Recovery’s CEO Per Wickstrom. “Former addicts need to be vigilant about identifying and avoiding triggers, and their family members and friends need to be a part of the solution as well.”
According to the A Forever Recovery blog post, former addicts need to watch out for the following potential triggers:
- Uncontrolled and persistent negative emotions, including anger, fear, jealousy and so on. These debilitating mental states and feelings can convince former addicts that they need drugs or alcohol to cope.
- Lack of self-belief and a destructive or self-hating attitude. Many former addicts can turn to aftercare programs to help them adopt and maintain an attitude that helps them remain on the path of sobriety.
- Certain people, places and things associated with drugs and alcohol, such as bars, certain kinds of parties, certain groups of associates or friends, and so on.
Added Per Wickstrom: “A study published in the journal 'Addiction' revealed that individuals who receive treatment are more likely to overcome relapse triggers than those who try to overcome their addictions alone. This is particularly noteworthy considering that, according to the National Institute on Drug Abuse, between 40 to 60 percent individuals who have recovered from addiction and achieved sobriety are likely to suffer at least one relapse during their lifetime.”
