A Forever Recovery Teams Up with Post Community Credit Union to Host Fundraiser for Local Police Department K9 Unit
Manistee, Michigan (PRWEB) August 08, 2015 -- In an effort to help the local Battle Creek Police Department in their mission of keeping our streets safe and drug-free, A Forever Recovery, a holistic treatment center for substance abuse, has joined with Post Community Credit Union in raising funds for a replacement K9 officer. Following the community-wide fundraising program announced by PCCU in March of 2015, A Forever Recovery pledged to donate a grant match up to $5,000. Now, the rehabilitation center and the credit union have worked together to organize a fundraising event called “A Penny For Your Dog”
“We want to help the police department,” stated A Forever Recovery Executive Director Pamela Anderson, “because they are doing the job of keeping drugs off the street.” Per Wickstrom, the founder of A Forever Recovery,” commented, “A major part of the fight against addiction that we face in our society today is found in prevention. The new K9 Officer will help police to find drugs before they can get sold to our teens and young adults, and quite possibly save a few lives in the process.”
Post Community Credit Union raised about $3,000 through bakes sales and other local efforts. With the grant match pledged by A Forever Recovery, altogether they have around $6,000 to help cover the cost of the new drug dog, named Ace. However, this is only around half the cost. Police dogs are highly specialized and go through rigorous training, and they carry a price tag to match. On average, a K9 Officer costs around $12,500.
The “A Penny For Your Dog” Fundraising Event
To further the cause of raising the money to cover the cost of Ace, Post Community Credit Union and A Forever Recovery announced that it will hold a special event called “A Penny For Your Dog” to be held on Friday, August 14th, 2015. The residents of the local community are invited to stop by the Credit Union location at 240 Cliff Street, Battle Creek, MI, between 11:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m., bringing any loose change they might have laying around to donate towards the drug dog.
The event will offer food, a meet & greet with Ace and his trainer, Chad Fickle, and an autograph signing session featuring former Detroit Lions wide receiver Herman Moore, with other former Lions’ players. A “Guess The Pennies” contest will also be held, and a high-performance racecar will be on display. All money raised by the event will be donated to the Battle Creek Police Department to help pay for Ace.
