A Mud Packed Dirty Weekend in Herefordshire
(PRWEB UK) 3 July 2013 -- Mud Runner Oblivion took place at Eastnor Castle, Herefordshire, this weekend (29th & 30th June) and turned out to be a festival of mud and sunshine. Mud Runner Oblivion is one of the original and biggest mud runs in the UK, with a 10km somewhat brutal run and a 5km junior/family run across obstacles, through swamps, rivers and mud pits.
The Dirty Weekend attracted 4500 runners and a couple of thousand spectators who all enjoyed the beautiful sunshine and stunning setting. The runners were in for a real treat as the course was muddier than ever providing some very tough running conditions alongside steep hills and some new surprise obstacles. Some of the most experienced runners commented on how this event delivers some of the best mud running in the country every time as the tracks are constantly used by Land Rover to test their vehicles.
The junior mud run gets bigger each year with more than 1700 runners taking part this weekend. Open to 5-15 year olds it provides a great mix of a tough challenging run for the older ones and a fun family muddy 5km for the younger ones.
Adventure runners, fun runners and charity fund raisers all turned up to have a go at Mud Runner Oblivion, many raising money for charities such as cystic fibrosis and multiple sclerosis. A group of 10 soldiers from Winchester under the team name Potential Officers ran the course both days with a stretcher and a ‘casualty’ in aid of Help for Heroes. They raised money from spectators and other runners who were kind enough to donate.
One amazing 9 year old boy, Lewis Munday, from Tetbury, Shropshire, ran the whole course with his twin Jack, his football team and coach and his walker. This inspirational lad has cerebral palsy but doesn’t allow anything to stop him joining in with his football team. He completed every obstacle and managed a few steps without his walker to cross the finish line.
Saturday night saw the Deer Park at Eastnor taken over by 1200 campers chilling out around the fire pit and listening to music from The Inevitable Spoon and The Jasmine Hill Band before many of them put on their running shoes again to complete the Dirty Weekend.
