A New Course from Knowledge Delivery Systems and Insight Education Group Takes Educators Beyond the Instructional Shifts
New York, NY (PRWEB) January 15, 2015 -- Educators across the country face a daunting challenge: implementing new standards that are considerably more rigorous than those in place even two or three years ago. While there’s great promise in College-and Career-Readiness Standards (CCRS) to prepare students for success beyond graduation, teachers are looking for deeper support to implement them effectively.
Recognizing this need, Knowledge Delivery Systems, Inc. (KDS) and Insight Education Group, both leaders in professional development and educator effectiveness, have developed a transformational online course that helps teachers understand and implement new practices that will have a direct impact on their students’ achievement of CCRS.
Launching this month, “Shifting Instruction with the Five Core Practices” is based on the Insight Core Framework and the research-proven strategies that promote deeper thinking and reasoning called for in the CCRS to ensure that all students are college- and- career ready after graduation.
“The Core Practices use the common language of the CCRS to help teachers better understand what they can do to promote the skills and habits of mind students need for success,” said Dr. Michael Moody, founder and CEO of Insight. “This course gives teachers tangible examples of what a college- and career-ready student really looks like, while helping them recognize and implement the key instructional practices that result in student success.”
Through interviews with Insight experts, videos of teachers modeling the Core Practices in authentic classrooms and interactive exercises, educators will identify the areas of their practice that are strong, and those areas that need to be further developed. By the end of this course, teachers will have designed lesson plans that incorporate each of the five high-impact Core Practices directly into their daily classroom practices.
Additional course features include opportunities for teachers to reflect on their practice and receive feedback from KDS online coaches, peer discussions around their implementation of Core Practices as well as an application toolkit that provides lessons, instructional materials and other resources that teachers can use immediately to implement all of the Core Practices and improve student learning.
Teachers also have the option of taking the course for CEU and graduate professional development credit.
“In order for CCRS to have their intended impact and for students to leave school truly prepared for the world, teachers need deep, sustained learning opportunities and tools that can transform instructional practices,” said Alvin Crawford, CEO of KDS. “We are excited to team up with Insight Education Group to help districts, schools and teachers put their students on the path to success.”
