A New Imaging Efficiency Dashboard from Health Data Intelligence Shines the Spotlight on the Quality and Efficient Use of Outpatient Medical Imaging Tests at US Hospitals
Columbus, OH (PRWEB) October 28, 2013 -- Health Data Intelligence (HDI) is pleased to announce the introduction of the Outpatient Imaging Efficiency Dashboard into its premier CarePlan Dashboard Suite. The Outpatient Imaging Efficiency Dashboard depicts outcomes about how a hospital uses outpatient medical imaging tests (like CT scans and MRIs). The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) has adopted six imaging measures which capture the quality of outpatient care in the area of imaging. The purpose of these measures is to promote high-quality and efficient care. Each of the measures currently utilizes both the Hospital OPPS claims and Physician Part B claims in calculations. These calculations are based on the administrative claims of the Medicare fee-for-service population, thus requiring no additional data submission by hospitals.
HDI’s Outpatient Imaging Efficiency Dashboard tracks quality measures such as whether outpatients with low back pain had an MRI without trying recommended treatments first, such as physical therapy; how many outpatients had a follow-up mammogram or ultrasound within 45 days after a screening mammogram; which outpatient CT scans of the abdomen or chest were combinations (double) scans; what proportion of outpatients got cardiac imaging stress tests before low-risk outpatient surgery; and what proportion of outpatients with brain CT scans also got a sinus CT scan at the same time.
Navigation within the Outpatient Imaging Efficiency Dashboard occurs via tabs, with graphical and tabular views for each time period selected, tooltips that provide rich metadata when a user hovers over any data point, filtering capabilities down to the individual hospitals or health system, CMS measure codes to help users uniquely identify each metric, and an About page that provides detailed metric definitions, external links, and other useful information.
Available for benchmarking on the Outpatient Imaging Efficiency Dashboard are state averages and the national average for each imaging measure as well as each hospital’s internal targets and organizational performance goals. Hospitals, health systems, and media organizations are invited to test drive the new HDI dashboard with a free 7-day preview.
