A NIGHT TO FIGHT Was a Fight Night to Remember
Dallas, TX (PRWEB) February 28, 2014 -- The UP HOPE Foundation and Standing 8 Promotions held this “full-of-greats” event to fight for a truly GREAT cause, THE RING OF HOPE BOXING CLUB, which mentors at risk youth in Dallas through boxing. Ring of Hope was founded by The URHOPE Foundation in 2010, and is one of the Dallas Leadership Foundation’s (DLF) many programs developed to help facilitate the re-development of disadvantaged Dallas communities.
If you missed this prominent event, you not only missed an exciting night of boxing but also the chance to win boxing gloves signed by Mike Tyson, a Dallas Cowboys helmet signed by Troy Aikman, one of 3 one thousand dollar Home Depot gift cards (one of the sponsors), and one of several vacation packages. You also missed the chance to meet, 1987 Heisman Trophy winner and one of the NFLs most prolific wide receivers, Tim Brown of the Oakland Raiders; former World Welterweight Champion Curtis Cokes; former multiple World Title Boxing Champion in four weight classes, Ann Wolfe; UFC fighter James Vick; Texas Super Middleweight Champion, Tony Mack; and other celebrities who showed up to support this great cause.
Those in attendance at this sold out event were not only privy to incredible fanfare they were also witness to 6 bouts of exciting, well-matched, professional boxing. Matches included a spellbinding UBS Super Welterweight title challenge between Cesar Villa of Austin, TX and Taronze Washington of Dallas, TX. The crowd definitely witnessed fight as Cesar Villa skillfully out boxed 33 fight veteran fighter and one time Texas title holder Washington to take home the vacant UBS Texas Super Welterweight title by unanimous decision, but not without a truly gut wrenching battle.
Another very impressive fight included the pro debut of Standing 8’s newly signed Kenny Grammer of Wichita Falls, TX who quickly out boxed Justin Rodriquez of Sweetwater, TX with a TKO in a performance that showed fans why Grammer is fittingly known throughout boxing circles as the “bad ass white boy.” Similarly another exciting fight of the evening featured Fort Worth’s own Tony Lopez, who took his 8-0 status to 9-0 by unanimous decision in a grueling bout with Raymond Chacon of Los Angeles, California. Chacon, who has held his own with some of the best was tough but unable to out match the superior skilled Lopez, who consistently showed better skills for the unanimous victory. Marquis Taylor of Houston, TX also delivered consistent skill and great athletic prowess in each bout against Leonard Brady of Lewisville, TX to win by unanimous decision his first welterweight fight on the Standing 8 Promotions card.
The crowd was pleased to watch Ring of Hope’s own prodigy Chris Faz of Dallas, TX win a featherweight fight against Rigaberto Moreno of Arlington, TX, but not so pleased to see fan favorite Mike Tufariello of Carrollton, TX defeated in a tough match against Marchristopher Adkins, Dallas, TX.
When asked about Standing 8 Promotions’ involvement with The Ring of Hope, Dustin Haney, owner of Standing 8 Promotions, used the old adage, “It sometimes takes a village to raise a child.” He explained how A Night to Fight charity events for The Ring of Hope are a perfect example of how people can come together to help at risk kids stay on the right path.
