A&P Selected to Build New Douglass Elementary School in Boulder

Boulder, Colorado (PRWEB) July 29, 2015 -- Boulder Valley School District (BVSD) recently selected Adolfson & Peterson Construction (A&P) to build the new Douglass Elementary replacement school in Boulder, Colorado. Part of the school’s bond program, the district staff determined it made more financial sense to replace the building, which was built in 1952, than to repair it.

In line with BVSD’s strong commitment to sustainability, the school will follow the District’s Sustainability Management System and the Sustainable Energy Plan. These requirements include new schools and buildings will be designed to meet 2009 LEED for Schools. In addition to this, new buildings will be designed as zero net energy or zero net energy capable, targeting 25Btu/sf. Projects will be designed to maximize LEED points for Indoor Environmental Quality.

The project will be delivered in a CM/GC format and is expected to cost $15M. Fielding Nair International is the design consultant who will manage the visioning and schematic drawings before handing off final designs to RTA Architects. RTA Architects and A&P have collaborated on numerous projects together, including the award-winning Mapleton Early Childhood Education Center in Boulder, which modernized a 124-year-old historical school into a contemporary learning facility for BVSD.

Construction is expected to begin in June 2016 and complete the next summer.
