A Supportive Community Honors Local Microentrepreneurs
Oakland, CA (PRWEB) July 31, 2014 -- AnewAmerica Community Corporation will honor and celebrate its entrepreneurs on Thursday, August 14th from 6:00-9:00 p.m. at its Microbusiness Expo, “Building Dreams, Changing Lives: A Celebration!” at the Kaiser Center Roof Garden in Downtown Oakland. The evening will feature the entrepreneurs’ hard work in a marketplace in which over 30 graduates of AnewAmerica’s Business Incubator program will gather to showcase their products and services.
AnewAmerica provides training and technical assistance to targeted communities for economic and social empowerment through a focus on green entrepreneurship, asset building, social responsibility and civic engagement. As a result of the program, participants start businesses, create jobs, and contribute to the economic growth and social capital of their communities. The Microbusiness Expo provides a chance for these entrepreneurs to share their accomplishments with the wider world.
Spotlighted entrepreneurs include Gloria Ramirez of Gloria’s V Tailoring, Wondwossen Tadesse of Skyline Pizza and Han Phan of Kid Start Daycare. Owners of food businesses will cater the event with a wide array of cuisines: Penny Baldado of Cafe Gabriela, Christian Perez of Cortez Catering, Carmenza Rengifo of Arepas La Calenita, and Elvio Colombana of Lobo's Ice Cream will be present.

There will also be prizes and a silent auction with the potential to win Oakland A's skybox tickets (10), winery private tours and tastings, Southwest Airlines tickets, golf certificates, and passes to the Oakland Zoo. Fabiola Kramsky-Gascón from Univision, spouse of SF District Attorney Gascon, will be the emcee.
AnewAmerica’s service model would not function without contributions from skilled volunteers. Since the start of 2014, AnewAmerica has deployed 117 volunteers to help its clients launch and grow their businesses. AnewAmerica will recognize these volunteers on August 14th by presenting two Volunteer of the Year Awards to those who made the biggest impact this year at each of the two field offices.
