AAGL: Elevating Gynecologic Surgery at the 46th Annual Global Congress
Cypress, CA (PRWEB) November 07, 2017 -- The AAGL (American Association of Gynecologic Laparoscopists) is proud to present its 46th Annual Global Congress on Minimally Invasive Gynecologic Surgery, November 12-16, 2017 at the Gaylord National Resort and Convention Center, in National Harbor, Maryland. AAGL’s Congress is the premier scientific conference that provides gynecologic surgeons from all over the world with the latest education and best practices in minimally invasive gynecologic surgery (MIGS), and this year will welcome over 1700 physicians from around the world, as well as over 80 exhibitors, and more than 1000 industry representatives, over the course of 5 days.
This year’s meeting was diligently planned by the volunteer Scientific Program Committee with the guiding charter theme of “Enhancing Minimally Invasive Gynecologic Surgery Through Quality, Patient Safety, and Innovation,” and with the relevant principal of “improving patient outcomes through a patient-centered approach that balances both innovation and technology, as well as quality and safety,” as stated by AAGL’s 2017 Scientific Program Committee Chair, Sawsan As-Sanie, M.D., MPH, Associate Professor, Director of Minimally Invasive Gynecologic Surgery and Fellowship Director, Endometriosis Center, Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at the University of Michigan Health System in Ann Arbor, Michigan.
The first 2 days of the Congress are dedicated to a full slate of CME (continuing medical education) State-of-the-Art Postgraduate Courses, 25 in total, consisting of didactic courses, hands-on simulation labs, and cadaver labs, covering topics such as optimizing quality and patient safety, building a world class robotic program, a “teach the teacher” course for improving surgical education skills, as well as advanced courses in complex anatomy and chronic pain procedures, planning surgical strategy, and dedicated subspecialty courses. The Congress rounds out it’s CME offerings with a streamlined program of high-quality, evidence-based presentations, including 6 Surgical Tutorials (3 that feature live cadaveric demonstrations); 8 Plenary Sessions; 6 Panel Sessions; and 5 General Sessions; with additional non-CME presentations of 11 Video Sessions, 17 Open Communications Sessions, and 4 Video and Virtual Poster Sessions. “The intent is to provide [Congress attendees with] the skills to make sure that [their] patients have access to excellent outcomes, whether [they] are operating in high technology, high resource settings, or in settings where access to these tools and resources are not readily available,” as stated by Dr. As-Sanie.
AAGL is honored to welcome several esteemed and world-renowned speakers at this year’s Congress. Presenting her lecture, “Never Finished Learning About Leadership,” at our Women Surgeons’ Breakfast is Susan Credle, Global Chief Creative Officer of FCB. The creative mind behind the iconic M&M’S “human” and Allstate’s “Mayhem” campaigns, she is one of the industry’s leading creatives, and an important voice representing women. The Honorary Chair is Professor Arnaud Wattiez, a pioneer in minimally invasive gynecologic surgery who has served as a mentor and instructor to surgeons all over the world. The Jordan M. Phillips, M.D. Keynote Speaker is physician and New York Times bestselling author, Martin Makary, M.D., MPH, FACS, surgical oncologist and Mark Ravitch Endowed Chair in gastrointestinal surgery at the Johns Hopkins Hospital, whose book “Unaccountable” aims to improve quality and safety in health care in the U.S.
Education and entertainment will be combined in creative General Session presentations. For the 6th straight year, the ever popular “Stump the Professor” session features 3 intriguing, mind-boggling, and complex cases presented to a panel of recognized international experts…will the experts determine the correct treatment and diagnosis, or will they be stumped? And in what has become a new tradition, an educational surgical spin-off of a popular television show, this year it is the always riveting cooking show, “Chopped”, will pit 3 master surgeons against each other in a surgical show-down of mystery baskets of “ingredients” – in this case, mystery procedures. This session is sure to be a definite must-see.
