ABCD: After Breast Cancer Diagnosis Receives $250,000 Harley-Davidson Grant
Glendale, Wis (PRWEB) July 22, 2015 -- ABCD: After Breast Cancer Diagnosis is pleased to announce Harley-Davidson Motor Company has awarded it a $250,000 grant for 2015, continuing the company’s generous support of ABCD’s expanding national impact. The grant supports ABCD’s overall vision of transforming breast cancer support with genuinely personalized, one-to-one survivorship services. Key to that expansion is the integration of ABCD’s peer support services – Helpline and One-to-One Match mentoring.
“We are proud to support the important work ABCD is doing to connect with and empower those facing breast cancer in a very personalized way,” said Claudia Garber, Harley-Davidson’s Director of Consumer Segment Strategies. “We have partnered with ABCD for several years and applaud the work the agency is doing to expand services to a national scale.”
In 2014, ABCD experienced a 100%+ growth in services over 2013. That growth will continue now that the National Cancer Institute has recognized survivorship support – care that complements clinical treatment from diagnosis and throughout life – as essential to quality cancer care. “While science searches for a future cure, ABCD supports people who are affected by breast cancer now,” remarked Audrey Warner, ABCD Board President. “I personally appreciate ABCD’s services because they were vital to my cancer journey. We are all grateful for Harley-Davidson’s investment in our vision.”
Harley-Davidson has a long-standing commitment to people affected by breast cancer and dedicates 3% of the proceeds from its Harley-Davidson Pink Label Collection® to national breast cancer organizations providing exceptional breast cancer services.
Founded more than 15 years ago by Emmy Award-winning journalist Melodie Wilson Oldenburg, ABCD’ s services are available nationwide to all affected by breast cancer – patients, families and friends, survivors and those living with breast cancer. ABCD’s continuum of one-to-one support is provided by volunteer Mentors, who are trained and professionally supported breast cancer survivors and co-survivors. Key services include immediate support from Helpline Mentors, connection to personalized resources from Resource Mentors and, ABCD’s signature service, personalized support from Match Mentors. ABCD also offers monthly support and education services to its volunteer Mentors and extensive community-based education and support services, often collaborating with key cancer centers.
