Abernethy Laurels Retirement Community Holds Ribbon Cutting Ceremony
Newton, NC (PRWEB) December 25, 2013 -- Abernethy Laurels, a continuing care retirement community in Newton, NC conducted a ribbon-cutting ceremony in celebration of a newly renovated area on their campus that provides memory care services for those with dementia related illnesses. The name Morrison Place, which is in reference to one of the founding families of Abernethy Laurels, was given to this area and announced at the ceremony.
The renovations included adding an existing hall to the area that provides memory support care. This change allows residents living in Morrison Place the opportunity to have more living space, larger places to gather for meals, and access to an additional courtyard. Morrison Place can now provide care for up to 38 residents. Funds from several grants also allowed the area to get a facelift and state-of-the-art programming targeted for those with dementia.
Dementia is the leading reason for placing elderly people in nursing homes. The need for dementia care facilities and trained caregivers will grow exponentially in the next two decades due to the aging of the 76 million Baby Boomers versus the current elder population of 35 million from The Silent Generation.
"We are thrilled to have been granted the opportunity to update this area of campus. Abernethy Laurels is one of few nursing care facilities in our area that offers memory care services in a secured environment. In addition to the physical changes, we are also very excited about the new programming and technology that Morrison Place has received," stated Amber McIntosh, Executive Director of Abernethy Laurels.
