Ability to Adapt One’s Learning Now at a Premium
New York, NY (PRWEB) December 19, 2016 -- In an uncertain and rapidly changing world, Charles Fadel, founder of the Center for Curriculum Redesign (CCR), believes the ability “to reflect and adapt is at a premium.” Fadel advocates for a holistic approach to 21st Century education. CCR recommends redesigning school curriculums to offer a complete framework across the 4 dimensions of an education, which include knowledge, skills, character and meta-learning. In the meta-learning dimension, students would practice “reflection, learn about their learning, internalize a growth mindset that encourages them to strive, and learn how to adapt their learning and behavior based on their goals.”
In a new interview with CMRubinWorld founder C. M. Rubin, Fadel discusses his definition of meta-learning and the role it plays in providing the competencies needed for the jobs of today and the future, as well as its importance in students being able to live a happier and healthier life.
“From a jobs standpoint, says Fadel, “it is the latitude to improve one’s learning on the job by learning how to learn continuously, with a “can-do” attitude, to constantly stay ahead of “jobsolescence”. But it is also how to deal effectively with crises, by examining one’s behaviors as well as the content of the behavior. The vaunted “Emotional Quotient” rests not only on executive functions at the reaction level, but also on the deeper questioning and resolving of why the behavior exists in the first place. For instance, in a meeting, you’d be both participating as well as observing/modulating how you participate.”

CMRubinWorld launched in 2010 to explore what kind of education would prepare students to succeed in a rapidly changing globalized world. Its award winning series, The Global Search for Education, is a celebrated trailblazer in the renaissance of the 21st century, and occupies a special place in the pulse of key issues facing every nation and the collective future of all children. It connects today’s top thought leaders with a diverse global audience of parents, students and educators. Its highly readable platform allows for discourse concerning our highest ideals and the sustainable solutions we must engineer to achieve them. C. M. Rubin has produced over 500 interviews and articles discussing an expansive array of topics under a singular vision: when it comes to the world of children, there is always more work to be done.
