Abstracts To Report New Discoveries in Allergy/Immunology at WAC 2015
Milwaukee, WI. (PRWEB) September 28, 2015 -- World Allergy Organization (WAO) announced that over 760 abstracts, spanning 13 categories from the field of allergy and immunology, will be presented at the XXIV World Allergy Congress (WAC 2015).
“Research shows that allergic diseases are becoming more complex and are increasing in prevalence and severity around the world,” said Lanny Rosenwasser, MD, President of the World Allergy Organization. “Yet as the abstracts this year reflect, we continue to make progress in identifying the underlying causes of allergic disease and to reach breakthroughs that can lead to more precise diagnostic and therapeutic approaches in the care of patients with asthma and allergies.”
Among the abstracts this year are studies on preventing the onset of allergic disease with prebiotics (Abstract 8966); improvements in diagnosing peanut allergy in Korean children (Abstract 8031); serum cytokines as biomarkers for eosinophilic gastroenteritis in children (Abstract 8712); findings from a cohort study on the effects of ambient desert dust on pollen-sensitized pregnant women (Abstract 7865); advancements toward a vaccine for shellfish allergy (Abstract 7937); new Korean guidelines for treatment of atopic dermatitis (Abstract 8175); evidence for an increased risk of atopic dermatitis in children from secondhand smoke exposure during pregnancy (Abstract 8066); and a new understanding of anaphylactic reactions to topical use of chlorhexidine (Abstract 8194).
Posters will be presented throughout the congress when no other sessions are taking place in order to emphasize the importance of this new research. Oral abstract presentations will take place 14, 15, and 16 October. Posters are organized in thematic sessions: asthma; skin allergy; pediatrics; food allergy; infection and allergy; allergy diagnosis; drug allergy; rhinitis, rhinosinusitis, ocular allergies, and comorbidities; air pollution and environmental allergies; immunology; immunotherapy; and allergy prevention.
WAO will host WAC 2015 in collaboration with the Korean Academy of Asthma, Allergy and Clinical Immunology (KAAACI) and their mutually collaborating partner the Asia Pacific Association of Pediatric Allergy, Respirology and Immunology (APAPARI), from 14–17 October 2015, in Seoul, Korea. They expect to gather 2000 delegates from around the world. More than 200 international experts will deliver a wide range of courses and subjects: 4 plenary sessions, 4 keynote lectures, 14 new horizon sessions, 10 pediatric tracks, 17 workshops, 24 symposia, 4 poster sessions and 9 oral abstracts.
