Abt Associates to Expand the National Evaluation of i3 under New Education Award
Cambridge, MA (PRWEB) January 28, 2014 -- Abt Associates has been selected by the U.S. Department of Education to expand the ongoing National Evaluation of Investing in Innovation (NEi3) to include the most recent 25 grant awards made with FY 2013 funds. Investing in Innovation (i3) is a key Department of Education grant program aimed at supporting the implementation and evaluation of a wide range of evidence-based interventions to improve student outcomes.
The award expands the NEi3 to more than $22 million over nine and half years, if all option periods are exercised. Under the contract, Abt Associates is responsible for accomplishing two goals: 1) providing technical assistance to ensure that the independent evaluations funded by i3 grants are well-designed and well-implemented and 2) summarizing the evaluations’ individual and collective strength of evidence and findings.
To date, the i3 program has awarded over $1 billion dollars to 117 grantees to scale-up, validate, or develop evidence-based education programs, according to Dr. Beth Boulay, principal associate at Abt Associates and leader of the NEi3 since its beginning in 2010.
“Our national evaluation will help ensure that the government’s investment generates high-quality evidence on which policymakers and school administrators can make informed decisions about how best to educate our students,” Boulay said. “We see this work as critical to helping the Department of Education support the generation and use of credible evidence in education policymaking.”
