Academic Leader Joins Innovative Athletic School to Make a Difference in Today’s Education
(PRWEB) February 17, 2015 -- US Performance Academy (USPA), an independent, digital, middle and high school designed for high performance athletes and a leader in the online education community has named Kimberly Dow as Chief of Academics. Before being named to the role, Kim held positions in both school and business environments.
“We are so excited to have Kim join USPA,” said Peter Smith, USPA President. “This was a global search that included a large pool of well-qualified candidates. In the end, Kim truly set herself apart with her experience of leading a school, her ability to relate to our families, and the unique perspective of having a child who is a high performing athlete. She understands the USPA mission of providing an outstanding academic experience in addition to providing our students with organizational tools, life skills, and the ability to take ownership of their own learning. Kim sees it from the student-athlete side, as a parent of a teen who is a luge competitor. She understands what it takes for parents to support their children’s athletic aspirations and can offer a great perspective to our current and future families. We are so pleased to have her as a part of the USPA family.”
Kimberly Dow brings a leadership background in both independent schools, corporate education, and non-profit organizations. Most recently, she served as the Head of School of a small independent school in Lake Placid, NY. Kim sees USPA as an innovative way to make an impactful difference in the lives of student-athletes.
“Our passion is to create a personalized learning plan, that is both flexible and balanced, and which offers opportunities to build collaborative environments among elite athletes in many different sports around the world,” says Dow, who will lead the school’s academic operations from Lake Placid, NY. Dow holds a bachelor's degree in Physics from Marlboro College, a master’s degree in Astrophysics from the University of Arizona, and a master’s degree in education from Harvard University. Kim is married and has four children.
“I am thrilled to have the opportunity to join USPA,” said Dow. “I knew there was no better school to join if I wanted to help make a difference in shaping the future of online learning for student-athletes. USPA is the ideal platform for student-athletes and their families who want an academic program that is both rigorous, flexible, engaging and which meshes in meaningful ways with their athletic endeavors. USPA aspires to truly define and provide an impactful academic solution for student-athletes and I believe that it has all of the necessary elements in abundance to accomplish this goal -- talent, resources, and perseverance.”
