Academy of Model Aeronautics Encourages Model Flying in Parks and as a Family-Friendly Activity for All Ages

Muncie, IN (PRWEB) April 09, 2015 -- The Academy of Model Aeronautics has launched a new awareness and education campaign designed to help increase model flying in parks and other programs such as Morale, Welfare, and Recreation (MWR) Programs.

As part of the campaign, the AMA has published a microsite that is designed to help park directors and others learn about model flying and how it is a family-friendly activity. The Academy of Model Aeronautics is the leading organization for the model aircraft hobby. The AMA’s membership is composed of model aircraft enthusiasts and clubs from across the nation. The AMA offers insurance to members, scholarships for high school students interested in model aviation, education programs for children and adults interested in radio controlled aircraft, competition and events for model aviation, magazine publications, and much more.

The AMA has a long history of working with parks departments and similar programs to educate people about flying safely on public land across the country. The Flying Site Assistance Program, directed by its coordinator, Tony Stillman, has helped hundreds of clubs across the nation establish and keep flying sites in their communities. Stillman is not only working with clubs to obtain, maintain, and find flying sites, he is also helping AMA partner with several organizations to promote the positive aspects of flying sites.

The Academy of Model Aeronautics has also established the AMA Flying Site Development Improvement Grant Program to provide funding for AMA chartered clubs to make improvements to their flying sites. In 2014, the AMA granted a total of $30,000 to clubs across the nation.
