Access Center at Eva’s Village Reports Outcomes of Case Management, Referral and Intake Services Provided to Residents of Paterson and the Greater Passaic County Area
Paterson, NJ (PRWEB) January 29, 2014 -- In early 2013 Eva’s Village opened the Access Center, a new program that provides case management, referral and intake services to residents in Paterson and the greater Passaic County area who are seeking a variety of medical, behavioral healthcare and social services. The Access Center is located adjacent to the main building at Eva’s Village and is open Monday – Friday from 7:00 am – 6:00 pm. Each weekday a paraprofessional with experience in social and behavioral health services is present in the Community Kitchen at Eva’s Village to provide case management to clients who come for the noon meal. “The Access Team helps us serve people in the community by assessing their needs and helping them access services quicker,” stated Marie Reger, executive director of Eva’s Village. “Many of those coming to our kitchen each day are not aware of the additional services we provide, yet alone other services in the Paterson area.”
During the month of December 509 visits were made to the Access Center. These visits include both walk-ins and referrals. The Access Center referred 36 individuals to services outside of Eva’s Village, 7 to detox programs and 29 to sheltering programs. They also referred 31 individuals to The New Jersey Recovery Center at Eva's Village, a peer-driven community resource center offering recovery-related workshops, seminars, group meetings, and social events 7 days/week.
The Access Center also facilitated intake services for 65 clients referred from outside of Eva’s Village to one of the organization’s addiction treatment programs. Twenty-four clients were admitted to a residential addiction treatment program at Eva’s Village and 41 to an outpatient program. “The Access Center attempts to connect visitors with the services they need,” states Mike Santillo, administrative director at Eva’ Village. “Many of those who come seeking help are dealing with multiple issues and the case managers work with them to address them all.”
Eva's Village (http://www.evasvillage.org), originally a New Jersey soup kitchen, was founded in 1982 by Msgr. Vincent E. Puma in response to the increasing incidence of homelessness in his Paterson, NJ parish. But Msgr. Puma soon realized that a soup kitchen was not enough. With the generous support of thousands of donors and private and government grants, Eva's has grown to be the most respected anti-poverty program in New Jersey. Their mission is to feed the hungry, shelter the homeless, treat the addicted and provide medical and dental care to the poor with respect for the human dignity of each individual.
