AccuQuilt 2015 Quilt Block Winner Exhibit
Omaha, NE (PRWEB) June 10, 2016 -- The new AccuQuilt Gallery exhibit features seven quilts and 12 block designs from the top 30 entries in last year's Quilt Block Design Contest. Visitors will have an opportunity to see the 2015 Quilt Block Winner Exhibit from now until July 31.
Last year's grand prizewinner was Sherry Rose and her design, Rainbow Twinkle, is the central quilt of the exhibit. Her incredible design was inspired by her family's love of motor sports and racing. The black and white checkered background depicts the checkered flag beautifully, while the vibrant color combination in the rainbow star represents the color scheme found on most racecars.
Second place winner Heidi Fry's quilt, Abby Burst, showcases classic AccuQuilt die shapes and includes an explosion of colorful parallelograms and triangles throughout the quilt.
Lee McCoy was the fan's choice winner last year, and her Chisel Star quilt rounds out the top three designs featured in the exhibit. Her modern design features traditional die shapes with the perfect combination of contrasting colors. The exhibit includes 12 additional quilt blocks, some of which use AccuQuilt die shapes to make creative flower designs.
Greg Gaggini, President of AccuQuilt remarked on the significance of having the exhibit of past winning blocks in the AccuQuilt Gallery. "This is the first time we have been able to revisit the previous winners and enjoy the unveiling of the new winners at the same time. It really shows the scope of talent and ideas that our quilt makers have."
This year marks AccuQuilt’s 7th Annual Quilt Block Design Contest (originally called the Barn Quilt Contest). AccuQuilt started these contests as a way to pay homage to the Barn Quilt Trail movement, which was started in 2001 by Donna Sue Groves of Adams County, Ohio. The contest takes place every summer, and after the designs have been narrowed down, three lucky winners receive the top prize packages. The grand prizewinner gets the honor of having their block featured on a gigantic 17' X 17' sign outside of AccuQuilt Headquarters for an entire year. Anyone taking a tour of AccuQuilt as well as thousands of people traveling along I-80 will see it every time they pass by.
At the AccuQuilt Unveiling Event yesterday, Rose’s quilt block design was replaced with the new winning design by Terri Vanden Bosch who is this year's grand prizewinner. Bosch and other retreaters from the Let's GO! Quilting Retreat 2016, AccuQuilt staff, and quilting icon Eleanor Burns looked on as the new design made its debut.
You can visit the AccuQuilt Gallery Monday through Friday from 10:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. (by appointment) to see the 2015 Quilt Block Winner Exhibit, which runs through July 31, 2016. You can also view the quilts and block designs on the AccuQuilt Gallery page.
