ACDIS Announces the Agenda for Its 8th Annual National Conference
Danvers, MA (PRWEB) February 16, 2015 -- The Association of Clinical Documentation Improvement Specialists (ACDIS), the nation’s premier healthcare community for clinical documentation professionals, is proud to announce the agenda for its 8th Annual National Conference, to be held May 19–21, 2015, at the Henry B. Gonzalez Convention Center in San Antonio.
The agenda includes more than 60 speakers chosen from a deep pool of applicants by this year’s 12-member conference committee. The 2015 conference features four tracks covering important topics such as:
- ICD-10 implementation and documentation needs
- Physician education and engagement
- Healthcare quality reporting and clinical documentation improvement efforts
- Documentation and coding guidelines and clinical indicators
- New initiatives in documentation improvement, including outpatient CDI
- Program management and assessment of CDI success
- CDI programs in a pediatric setting
This year’s conference has a few new features on its schedule, including a pre-conference welcome and networking reception on the evening of Monday, May 18. ACDIS will award the prestigious 2015 CDI Professional of the Year awards to kick off Day 1. The conference itself is located right by the scenic and historic Riverwalk in downtown San Antonio, home to the Alamo and other popular attractions.
ACDIS is also going green this year. It has created a new interactive app to house the conference materials, which will also feature Twitter notifications, a session planner, and audience polls. This year’s program materials will not be printed; they can either be accessed through the conference app or downloaded through a link provided prior to the event.
In addition, ACDIS welcomes Donna Smith, RHIA, AHIMA-Approved ICD-10-CM/PCS Trainer, from 3M Health Information Systems. As a definitive source from the company possessing the APR-DRG methodology, Smith will open the conference with a general session demonstrating the reimbursement impact of ICD-10 for organizations paid under APR-DRGs. Using real-world examples, Smith will provide a step-by-step analysis that can be used to determine the areas and service lines with the greatest exposure under ICD-10, along with mitigation opportunities using documentation specificity.
This year’s keynote speaker, Will Miller, MD, will kick off the second day of sessions with a motivational discussion titled “Caring for Your Caregivers.” A therapist, counselor, author, and teacher at Purdue University, Miller is one of the country’s leading authorities on stress reduction and life balance, and a recognized motivational speaker and expert in the areas of stress and coping, interpersonal relationships, organizational health, and workplace culture. Miller has appeared as an on-air spokesman for the Nick at Nite television network and hosted the NBC Daytime program The Other Side. He has also served in mental health and substance abuse recovery centers, and provided spiritual guidance at universities and hospitals, as well as to police.
“As the nation’s only dedicated association for clinical documentation improvement professionals, ACDIS is pleased to offer our biggest and best conference yet,” said ACDIS director Brian Murphy. “CDI is one of the fastest-growing professions in healthcare and is uniquely poised to lead the transition to pay-for-performance. The ACDIS annual conference offers the best education, networking, and recognition available for this critical group of professionals.”
