ACDIS Responds to Healthcare Reform with Advanced CDI Boot Camp
Danvers, MA (PRWEB) May 07, 2014 -- In response to the vast changes associated with healthcare reform, The Association of Clinical Documentation Improvement Specialists (ACDIS) is rolling out the next phase of its popular, customer-acclaimed CDI Boot Camps—The Advanced CDI Boot Camp. The intensive four day class will debut in October.
CDI has largely been related to clarifying a patient’s principal diagnosis and any reportable secondary diagnoses for the purposes of accurate MS-DRG assignment. While this remains a critical component of the CDI role, the Advanced CDI Boot Camp acknowledges that strong clinical documentation throughout the record supports hospital payments under the Hospital Value Based Purchasing Program (HVBP), medical necessity of inpatient admissions, accurate surgical complication rates, and more.
The Advanced CDI Boot Camp is designed for established clinical documentation departments looking to move toward the “next level”—strengthening the relationship between clinical documentation and key revenue cycle partners such as utilization review, quality, case management, and coding, to achieve accurate quality indicators and optimal reimbursement under HVBP.
Day one of the boot camp provides instruction on reimbursement methodologies beyond inpatient, such as the CMS-Hierarchical Condition Category system (HCC) and the Outpatient Perspective Payment System (OPPS), exploring the potential advantages of expanding CDI into other departments.
Day two explores the relationship between medical necessity and MS-DRG assignment, focusing on the relationship between coded data and the increased vulnerability for medical necessity denials. Instructors will present common tools for supporting patient admission, such as screening guidelines, and contrast these with requirements for reportable coded data to offer concrete strategies for reduced denials.
Days three and four will focus on the dynamics between coded data and quality metrics. Instructors discuss the potential goals and objectives of a CDI department, including revenue enhancement, quality, and coding accuracy, and how to best align the department within an organization for maximum success.
