Acentec Study Shows Affordable Care Act Not Always Beneficial to Independent Physicians
Irvine, CA (PRWEB) January 22, 2014 -- While much of the buzz surrounding the Affordable Care Act (ACA) has been focused around its benefits to patients, less attention has been given to how it affects physicians. Acentec, Inc., a medical practice solution and service provider, recently released a survey showing that many independent physicians were not yet benefiting from the ACA, and that many were still in the dark as to how to take advantage of it.
The survey targeted independent, ambulatory medical practices across the country, including specialists and primary care providers, with groups ranging in size from solo practitioners to 20 physicians. Here are highlights from the survey:
-64% have not yet been given the opportunity to accept patients through their state’s or the federal government’s Health Insurance Exchange
-77% expect the ACA to have a negative impact on their practice
-48% don’t expect the ACA to impact their patient volume
“These results show that independent physicians still feel confusion on how to deal with the Affordable Care Act, and that many are apprehensive about the future of their practices as a result,” said Jeff Mongelli, CEO of Acentec.
