Acer Provides Laptops to Toronto Blue Jays’ Home Run Scholar Program Recipients
Mississauga, Ontario, Canada (PRWEB) June 25, 2014 -- Acer today announced a donation of 80 laptops to promising students from priority communities who were selected by the Toronto Blue Jays’ charitable organization, Jays Care Foundation, and as part of the Jays Care Home Run Scholars Program.

Last night the Home Run Scholars students were recognized and hosted in a suite at Rogers Centre, where they were each surprised with an Acer laptop to take home. The students each received Acer’s new thin and light Aspire V5-552P-7480 notebook, valued at $599.99. It includes a high-definition 15.6-inch touch screen, AMD processor, 6GB of memory, 500GB hard drive, Dolby Advanced Audio, Windows 8, and a webcam.
The Home Run Scholars program helps youth in priority communities graduate from high school and successfully transition into post-secondary education or training. Through mentoring, tutoring, and financial support it helps students pursue their educational and career goals. The program has doubled high school graduation rates among participants, and dropout rates have declined by as much as 70 per cent in participating communities. In 2014, Jays Care Foundation expanded the Home Run Scholars program through a $1 million national partnership with Pathways to Education.
“The Home Run Scholars program aims to help students at risk of leaving school obtain a high school diploma and continue on to post-secondary education,” said Danielle Bedasse, Jays Care Foundation Executive Director. “We are proud of our $1 million investment in Pathways to Education to achieve this goal. It is tremendous to have a partner like Acer step up to the plate and help us deliver such an important resource for these students.”
