ACGT’s Inaugural Innovative Leadership Award Gala Raises $750,000 to Fund Early Stage Cancer Research
Stamford, CT (PRWEB) April 21, 2015 -- Alliance for Cancer Gene Therapy (ACGT) — the nation’s only nonprofit dedicated exclusively to cell and gene therapies for cancer — today announced that its inaugural Innovative Leadership Award Gala, held at The Harvard Club in New York City, raised $750,000 to fund cell and gene therapy research which aims to make cancer a manageable and treatable disease.
The gala, which honored the significant contributions Dr. Savio L.C. Woo has made to ACGT through his leadership of its Scientific Advisory Council, featured inspiring stories from immunotherapy patients and cancer survivors, and insights into the future of ACGT from incoming Scientific Advisory Council Chair, Dr. Joseph Glorioso.
“We are grateful to all of our friends and supporters who came out to celebrate the contributions of Dr. Savio L.C. Woo and the accomplishments of ACGT,” said Barbara Netter, ACGT’s Co-Founder and President. “As we heard from immunotherapy patients and their families, the groundbreaking research that ACGT funds is making a tremendous impact on and holds great potential to help cancer patients live longer and more fulfilling lives. This is a mission to which we remain deeply committed and we look forward to continuing to fund the investigators who are bringing these concepts for new and innovative cancer treatments from inception to execution.”
ACGT provides grant funding to promising researchers whose work dovetails with the foundation’s mission: Leveraging cell and gene therapies to supplant the more harrowing cancer treatments such as radiation, chemotherapy and surgery. Earlier this year, ACGT reached a significant milestone, surpassing $25 million in grants to support innovative and breakthrough cancer research.
