ACS Group Sponsors College Scholarships for YWCA of Greater Atlanta “Teen Girls in Technology Program”
Atlanta, Georgia (PRWEB) July 09, 2015 -- American CyberSystems, Inc. (ACS Group) recently presented three college scholarships of $10,000 each, to participants of the YWCA of Greater Atlanta’s Teen Girls in Technology (TGI Tech) program. TGI Tech is a program dedicated to preparing young women from middle school through high school for careers in Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM). The scholarships were awarded to three high school graduates participating in the program.
ACS Group CEO Raj Sardana and his wife, Nita Sardana, ACS Group Vice President of Community Outreach and Corporate Giving, have sponsored TGI Tech since 2006. ACS Group encourages its employees to take an active role in strengthening the community by supporting teen technology education and mentoring.
“TGI Tech is truly a life-changing program,” Nita Sardana commented. “We strongly believe in the work being done by the YWCA to help these young women live out their dreams and have a more secure and successful future. This is the fourth graduating class and the fourth time we have awarded these scholarships to very deserving young women. This year’s recipients were, Brittany Maddox, Brooke Simpson, and Hannah Culbreath.”
The goal of TGI Tech is to prepare young women to enter a world of non-traditional, STEM-related careers such as engineering, oceanography, computer science, and biotechnology. The program helps increase the interest, confidence, and competence of girls and young women, ages 12 through 18, who plan to pursue technology careers. Program participants receive innovative learning opportunities to develop critical thinking and problem-solving skills. The program also links these girls to successful women in STEM professions, for additional mentoring and encouragement.
