Action and Adventure for former Havering College student in new Tarzan movie
Hornchurch, Greater London (PRWEB UK) 8 August 2014 -- Charles Babalola, who achieved a National Diploma in Performing Arts (Drama) at the college in 2010, will see his name on the film credits alongside Hollywood A-lister Samuel L Jackson and Wolf of Wall Street actress Margot Robbie.
The part is an exciting career start for the 23-year-old who has just graduated from LAMDA - London Academy of Music & Dramatic Art – with a BA (Honours) in Acting.
Charles was put forward for the audition by his agency, Creative Artists Management (CAM) and invited to the Warner Bros Studios in Leavesden to meet Tarzan director David Yates, who directed the last four Harry Potter movies.
Charles said: “I met David Yates, got my costume fitted and he offered me the part. It’s a supporting role and I will appear in a couple of scenes. I cannot disclose any more due to confidentiality.
“I have auditioned for a few things this year but leaving drama school is the time when you are looking to bag your first job. I was really lucky to have got this role in the new Tarzan film in the last week before I left drama school. This is the biggest break I have had so far by a mile.”
The East London resident has filmed some of his scenes and has more filming dates scheduled later in August.
Charles has already rubbed shoulders with Pulp Fiction Oscar nominee Samuel L. Jackson who plays an ex-mercenary teamed up with Tarzan. The 3D movie is due to premiere in 2016.
Charles said: “Meeting Samuel Jackson was pretty surreal. I was just sitting in the make-up trailer and he walked in and got his make up done right next to me. He was a nice friendly guy, speaking to me about my role in the film. He was talking about his deaths in different films and was really friendly.”
Staff at Havering College of Further and Higher Education have praised Charles for landing the role and described him as a “dedicated” student.
Havering College Curriculum Manager for Dance, Elaine O’Connor said: “Charles was always very dedicated and focused on his work. He was a talented young man who listened to direction and heeded the advice given to him. I'm not a bit surprised that he has landed a film part - large or small, he will commit 100 per cent to each project that he does.”
Charles appeared in a number of Havering College productions during his two years of study at college’s £6million Centre of Creative Arts in Hornchurch, Greater London.
Havering College holds Artsmark Gold status from Arts Council England in recognition of its commitment to, and excellence in, arts education.
Charles said: “I am sure Havering College has played a part in my success. The Performing Arts Drama course gives you variety and is good preparation for drama school. The tutors were always helpful. It’s important to know that your seniors are going to be there for you no matter what and always have your best interests at heart.”
