Active Aging Week 2015 Gains Momentum as President’s Council Teams with ICAA
(PRWEB) August 04, 2015 -- International Council on Active Aging (ICAA) announces a partnership with the President’s Council on Fitness, Sports & Nutrition (PCFSN) to promote healthier living messages for adults aged 50 and over.
The partnership between PCFSN and ICAA will help support the investigation into new and innovative strategies for promoting physical activity in the older adult population through collaborative activities like Active Aging Week (AAW). AAW is scheduled to take place from Sept. 27 to Oct. 3 this year. Since it started in 2003, thousands of organizations and millions of people have participated in the event and its hopeful message of changing the way people age. With PCFSN’s strong communications background and name recognition behind it, this year’s AAW promises to be the biggest ever.
“We completely support the President’s Council’s mission of getting Americans moving, and they support ICAA’s mission,” says ICAA Founder and CEO Colin Milner. “Bridging the knowledge gap between two groups that share a powerful joint vision of healthier living brings us both closer to our goals. I’m thrilled to add PCFSN to our growing list of national and international partners.”
PCFSN began in 1956 under President Dwight D. Eisenhower after a sobering study found 4,400 Americans aged 6 to 16 physically trailed their European peers. Ten administrations and 58 years later, the President’s Council on Youth Fitness evolved into the President’s Council on Fitness, Sports & Nutrition.
"PCFSN increases its ability to reach millions of older Americans with partners like ICAA by spreading awareness messages, increasing access to physical activity, and changing the conversation regarding aging,” says PCFSN Executive Director Shellie Pfohl. “We aim to help older Americans add years to their lives and add life to their years."
