Actos Makers to Pay $9 Billion: Flood Law Group Investigates Lawsuits
Washington, D.C. (PRWEB) April 08, 2014 -- A U.S. jury ordered Takeda Pharmaceuticals and marketing partner Eli Lilly & Co. to pay a total of $9 billion in punitive damages for allegedly hiding the risks of the diabetes drug Actos. In light of this news, the national litigation firm Flood Law Group informs the public that it is now available to investigate potential Actos lawsuits on behalf of persons who developed bladder cancer after taking the drug.
According to the Wall Street Journal (Takeda, Lilly Ordered to Pay $9 Billion in Diabetes-Drug Case, 4/8/2014), Takeda shares took a hit following the decision.
A woman filed a lawsuit against Takeda on March 17, alleging her father died from bladder cancer as a result of taking Actos. The lawsuit (case no. 4:2014cv00484) was filed in Missouri Eastern District Court. Another lawsuit (case no. A-13-680556-C) was filed last month in Clark County Courts – Eighth District Court of Nevada on behalf of two plaintiffs who allege they also developed bladder cancer after taking the diabetes drug.
In light of the recent news and developments in Actos litigation, Flood Law Group is announcing that it is accepting new cases on behalf of individuals and families who believe they’ve been affected by the diabetes drug.
“We are actively pursuing lawsuits on behalf of individuals that have been diagnosed with bladder cancer after ingesting Actos,” said Christopher Brown, Communications Director for Flood Law Group. “We agree with the recent court decision and are pleased to see the Actos litigation moving forward.”
Actos quickly became one of Takeda’s blockbuster drugs after hitting the U.S. market in 1999. It has been approved to treat individuals with type 2 diabetes. The current drug label warns patients about the potential risk for bladder cancer.
