Adagio Group Aims to Bring Real Estate Investment Market up to Speed on Professional Finance
Fort Lauderdale, Florida (PRWEB) February 03, 2016 -- Adagio Group, a Houston-based private asset management firm, has unveiled its Accredited Investment Professional (“AIP”) program. The program is intended to shift the culture of real estate investing to adopt the practices of financial professionals and improve access to capital. Benjamin D. Summers, managing director of Adagio Group, sees a glut of struggling real estate professionals all replicating the same business model while ignoring an astounding hole in the market left vacant due to a lack of basic financial knowledge. South Florida’s status as an international destination with an economy largely dependent upon real estate led to the decision to establish a second base of operations for Adagio in Fort Lauderdale.
“There is a tremendous gap of sophistication between real estate and other asset classes in terms of how market participants typically evaluate and structure trades - especially in the residential and small-commercial markets,” said Ben Summers. “The lack of financial knowledge that governs real estate investing has led to the asset class incurring a poor reputation amongst financial professionals. In actuality, the problem does not lie with the asset class but with investor behavior. This cultural divide creates an immense challenge in terms of getting financial institutions to provide liquidity to real estate as an investment. To the extent possible, our goal is to bring the financial methodologies employed with traditional assets and recognized by financial institutions to the real estate market. We’re providing real estate investors and their agents with the skills to responsibly analyze risk-adjusted returns and structure deals to capitalize on a meaningful understanding of their market and the macro [economic] climate - from straight acquisitions to the strategic use of derivatives. We’re making a concerted effort to change the finance world’s view of real estate”
The AIP program is comprised of a 150-hour course and designation. Upon successfully completing the course, AIP designees are extended the opportunity to work directly with Adagio Group to implement the financial skills covered within it.
“We want to foster real estate professionals that are better equipped to communicate with liquidity-providing financial institutions and engage the private capital markets. Real estate is one of the few remaining vehicles for smart, driven investors to govern their future. There are still great frontiers within real estate that we’re working hard to trail blaze,” Summers said.
In addition to managing its various funds, Adagio Group currently works with Galleria International Realty of Fort Lauderdale and consults with investors from around the world providing turnkey EB-5 immigration services. Those experiences have led Adagio to make the AIP designation available to real estate brokerages and other private companies. Summers sees that AIP designated firms are more competitive and have the greatest impact on reshaping the real estate investing culture.
“Brokers and their agents are the face of real estate. The more firms that understand responsible investing and incorporate it into their practice, the faster the overall culture will improve,” Summers said.
