ADLINK Introduces aTCA-N700 40G AdvancedTCA® NPU Blade for High Throughput Packet Processing
San Jose, CA (PRWEB) October 29, 2013 -- ADLINK Technology, Inc., a trusted provider of embedded computing products and Application Ready Intelligent Platforms (ARIPs), today announced its first network processing unit (NPU), the ADLINK aTCA-N700 AdvancedTCA® (ATCA) packet processing blade featuring dual 32 core NPUs for parallel processing and up to 320G switching capability. The aTCA-N700 delivers advanced packet and security processing capabilities for high-performance, high-throughput, low-latency applications in broadband infrastructure elements, such as wireless access point controllers, network security platforms, deep packet inspection, IPTV, LTE gateways, and media servers.
“More and more we’ve been seeing a demand for NPU-based processor blades with high performance network processing capabilities and multi-threading support for applications requiring high throughput in ATCA networking and communications platforms,” said Eric Kao, director of ADLINK's Embedded Computing Product Segment, regarding the features of the aTCA-N700.
The ADLINK aTCA-N700 is compliant to the ATCA Base Specification (PICMG 3.0 R.3.0) and the ATCA Ethernet Specification (PICMG 3.1 R2.0) and is powered by dual Cavium OCTEON II CN6880 processors, each with 32 cnMIPS64 V2 cores and a highly optimized architecture for deep packet inspection, network security, and traffic-shaping applications.
Eight memory sockets are provided to support VLP DDR3-1333 REG/ECC up to 128GB and data transfer bandwidth up to 320Gbps. The aTCA-N700 blade also supports TCAM for fast router lookup. The aTCA-N700 outperforms its competitors with a powerful Local Management Processor (LMP), a quad-core Freescale QorIQ P2041, which makes local management more flexible and convenient and allows the Cavium processors to focus on packet processing.
Each set of NPUs has its own NOR boot flash memory and NAND OS flash memory in a redundant configuration. The LMP has two EEROM for U-Boot image storage and two SSD devices for operating system and application image storage to provide 1-to-1 hardware redundancy.
For Ethernet connectivity, the aTCA-N700 utilizes the high-performance Broadcom BCM 56842 Ethernet switch to connect the CN6880 packet processors, backplanes, and IO ports, with the switch fabric providing up to 320Gbps bandwidth. For data transfer, the aTCA-N700 uses dual Fabric Interface channels (2x 40G) in addition to two base interfaces (2xGbE), which provide both speed and flexibility. Flexible RTM support is also provided to facilitate maximum I/O density and supply up to 160 Gbps of total available bandwidth.
ADLINK has prepared Application Ready Intelligent Platform (ARIP) solutions that integrate both hardware and software to facilitate better performance, reduce risk and cost of ownership, and help system providers to speed time-to-market of their products, such as Wi-Fi access controllers and deep packet inspection platforms. Other suitable applications include IP radio network controllers, LTE gateways, security gateways, high-density media gateways, media servers, IPTV infrastructure components (e.g. edge routers and media switches), and WiMAX ASN gateways.
