Adopters of International Swimming Pool and Spa Code Qualify for Federal Grant Money
Alexandria, VA (PRWEB) February 18, 2015 -- The Association of Pool & Spa Professionals (APSP) is pleased to announce that state and local jurisdictions that have adopted the International Swimming Pool and Spa Code (ISPSC) are now eligible to apply for grant money that will help implement education programs for enforcement officials, pool builders and the public.
To assist eligible jurisdictions in applying for the grant, the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) will host a webinar on the Pool Safety Grant Program (PSGP) on Thursday, February 19 at 1 p.m. EST.
The purpose of the PSGP is to prevent the drowning and entrapment of children in pools and spas. The program will provide state and local governments with assistance to implement enforcement and educations programs.
“This is a great opportunity for jurisdictions that have already adopted the International Swimming Pool & Spa Code,” said APSP Vice President, Technical & Standards Carvin DiGiovanni. “The adoption of the ISPSC has put them ahead of the curve when it comes to safety. They can take advantage of this by applying to receive money to train code enforcement officials and pool builders on how to make sure public and residential pools, spas and hot tubs comply with the code.”
The ISPSC was developed jointly by APSP and the International Code Council to establish the minimum requirements for newly constructed public and residential pools, spas and hot tubs. Jurisdictions that have adopted the ISPSC have already exceeded the requirements in the Virginia Graeme Baker Pool & Spa Safety Act.
Register here for the CPSC Pool Safety Grant Program webinar. The ISPSC can be ordered from the APSP store. For more information on the International Swimming Pool & Spa Code and code adoption, contact DiGiovanni by email at cdigiovanni(at)apsp(dot)org or by phone at 703-838-0083.
