Lewisville, TX (PRWEB) September 10, 2015 -- Advanced Care Veterinary Services is offering Stem Cell therapy for dogs and cats who suffer from orthopedic conditions such as osteoarthritis and tendon and ligament injuries. The therapy is performed by Dr Douglas Stramel in conjunction with VetStem Biopharma.
Douglas Stramel received his Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine from Kansas State University in 1991. In 1994 he was accepted as an intern with the Dallas Veterinary Surgical Center (DVSC). While at DVSC he gained extensive knowledge in advanced surgical techniques. Dr. Stramel is a member of the American Veterinary Medical Association, American Animal Hospital Association, International Veterinary Academy of Pain Medicine (IVAPM), and International Association for the Study of Pain and American Society of Regional Anesthesia and Pain Medicine.
He sits as Chair of ‘Advisory Council on Pain Management’ through IVAPM, which is dedicated to publishing pain management guidelines in the field of veterinary medicine. In the inaugural year of 2009, he received the credentials of Certified Veterinary Pain Practitioner and is the first and only veterinarian to receive this credentialing in the Dallas/Fort Worth area. He contracts through Pfizer Animal Health to provide continuing education presentations and wet labs on the topics of anesthesia and pain management to local practitioners.
Dr. Stramel has been certified in Regenerative Cell Therapy since 2007, using adult derived stem cells to treat a wide variety of orthopedic conditions. Dr. Stramel has treated several patients with stem cell therapy including his own dog.
Stem cells are regenerative cells that can differentiate into many tissue types as well as being able to reduce pain and inflammation thus helping to restore range of motion and stimulate regeneration of tendon, ligament and joint tissues (http://www.vet-stem.com/science.php). Once Dr. Stramel has identified a patient as a good candidate for stem cell therapy the procedure begins with a fatty tissue collection from the patient. The tissue sample is sent overnight to VetStem’s lab in California for processing. Once processed the stem cells are quality checked and then injectable doses of the patient’s stem cells are sent overnight, back to Dr. Stramel at Advanced Care Veterinary Services. Within 48hrs of collecting a fat sample from a patient Dr. Stramel is able to inject stem cells into (arthritic or injured) affected areas and healing can begin.
