Adventure Science Center and Boy Scouts of America Partner to Offer New STEM Scouts Program
Nashville, TN (PRWEB) September 01, 2016 -- America has lost its competitive edge in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM). According to the National Math & Science Initiative, the U.S. may have led the world in high school graduation rates 25 years ago, but today, the U.S. has dropped to 20th place. Experts from across the country are searching for solutions to the U.S. STEM crisis as the country struggles to produce a work force specializing in areas that drive innovation and industry.
Adventure Science Center of Nashville specializes in finding creative ways to inspire students’ curiosity about science and the world around them. Their latest effort includes a partnership with Boy Scouts of America and participation in their new STEM Scouts program. STEM Scouts is a co-educational after-school program allowing students to explore exciting STEM activities and experiments in a hands-on, minds-on learning environment.
All STEM Scouts lessons have been designed and vetted by STEM professionals and will be delivered by Adventure Science Center’s talented staff of STEM educators. Scouts have the opportunity to work in teams, challenge themselves, and connect with STEM professionals while exploring unique module themes like “Bubble-ology” and Vertical Farming.
“Finding a way to engage students in STEM learning outside the classroom can sometimes be difficult,” said Tiffany Farmer, Ph.D., Director of Education and Community Engagement at Adventure Science Center. “Our educators are thrilled about the program. It’s an opportunity for them to share their own experiences in the STEM workplace, build relationships, and positively impact students’ abilities to retain STEM knowledge.”
The STEM Scouts program aims to produce young men and women who become problem solvers in all aspects of life, look for opportunities to serve others, demonstrate good citizenship, and show integrity in all phases of their lives.
STEM Scouts is available for students ages 8 to 14, which are separated into two distinct groups, and costs $325 for Adventure Science Center members or $375 for non-members.
