Advice for Upcoming Hurricane Season From Long® Fence
Capitol Heights, MD (PRWEB) June 30, 2015 -- This year's hurricane season (June 1 to November 30) is putting more than 6.6 million homes in danger, according to the Claims Journal on June 5, 2015. In order to protect their properties from summer storm damage, Long® Fence advises that homeowners take certain proactive steps.
Check the Trees. Tall trees could protect homes from high winds, but their dry branches may break off and damage houses, fences and yards. Homeowners would be wise to trim any overreaching, unhealthy, or dead branches. If unsure of a tree's health, homeowners should call a professional.
Check Pergolas and Gazebos. If homeowners have any outdoor structures, such as a gazebo or even just a tool shed, they'd be smart to check the integrity of these buildings. Rotten posts, foundation issues, wobbly or broken joins, and loose trimming can all prove to be bigger problems than might be assumed.
Check Trellises. If there are any trellises, homeowners should check to make sure they're posted or attached. Any instability could bring the entire structure down.
Check on Gardening Tools. Gardening tools need to be put back in their rightful places. It's okay to leave them out during other times of the year, but if strong winds hit, they may send a shovel flying. Grab any loose items, like flowerpots or empty containers, too. It's easier to clean up storm litter and debris when a yard was tidy before the storm hit.
Check Garden Decor. If there's any decor in the garden, it would be wise to pack it all away. Mirror balls, wind chimes, wind socks, and more could all be easily be damaged or lost in a heavy storm. Packing them away is the best way to keep them safe.
