Affymetrix Tumor Profiling Grant Recipients Will Share Vital Case Studies Using a Multi-omics Approach to Biomarker Discovery
Yorba Linda, Ca (PRWEB) September 27, 2016 -- Systematic tumor profiling with multi-omics tools and rapid analytical validation is a powerful way to discover clinically relevant biomarkers and increase the probability of success. The parallel analysis of any combination of SNP, copy number variation, gene expression and regulation, protein expression, or cellular analysis enables rapid identification of the most robust biomarkers for impactful clinical application. The data from one type of analyte can provide biological validation for another, enhancing the diagnostic power and increasing confidence in the final biomarkers selected towards routine clinical use.
During this webinar, the presenters will discuss their experience applying a multi-omics approach to tumor profiling in multiple types of cancer, including ovarian, pancreatic, and prostate cancers. Participants will observe a demonstration of advanced technologies that enable rapid and efficient biomarker discovery and validation at the DNA, RNA, protein, and cellular levels. The speakers will explain how the Affymetrix Tumor Profiling Grant has enabled them to undertake important projects aimed at improving cancer treatment which otherwise would not have come to fruition.
The three translational researchers, who received grants from Affymetrix in 2015 and will be presenting during the free webinar are Antonia Sepulveda, M.D., Ph.D., professor at Columbia University; Yang Yang, Ph.D., assistant professor at the Yale School of Medicine; and Tamara Lotan, M.D., assistant professor at Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine.
Sepulveda received her doctorate of medicine from University of Lisbon, Portugal and her doctorate of cell biology from Baylor College of Medicine. She is currently a professor of pathology and cell biology at Columbia University, as well as Vice Chair for Translational Research and Director, Division of Gastrointestinal Pathology.
Yang received her doctorate of molecular pharmacology from Nankai University, China. She is currently an assistant professor in the Department of Obstetrics, Gynecology & Reproductive Sciences at Yale School of Medicine.
Lotan received her doctorate in medicine from the University of Chicago, Pritzker School of Medicine. She is currently an associate professor of pathology and oncology at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine.
