Africare Names Stephen D. Cashin Chairman of the Board
Washington, DC (PRWEB) January 23, 2014 -- Africare, an African-American founded development organization committed to improving the lives of people in Africa, announced that Stephen D. Cashin, founder and CEO of Pan African Capital Group (PACG), has become its new Chairman of the Board.
Cashin previously served as the Africare Interim Chairman since 2012.
“The Africare Board of Directors unanimously agreed that Steve’s unique and diverse experiences working in Africa make him the ideal Chairman to lead Africare into the future,” said Darius Mans, president of Africare. “Steve represents the diversity we seek and currently have in our leadership and staff required to deliver programs specifically developed for Africans.”
Cashin founded PACG in 2004 as a financial services firm focused solely on investment opportunities in Sub-Saharan Africa. The firm’s investments often target financial services, technology and manufacturing fields. The company currently is expanding its merchant banking operations across the African continent.
“I am honored and humbled by the confidence the Africare Board of Directors and the entire Africare staff has placed in me to become the new Board Chairman,” said Cashin. “Africare’s people and programs are needed now more than ever to address the complex health and development challenges in Africa. Cashin sits on the Boards of International Bank (Liberia) Limited and DataBank, an investment banking group based in Ghana. Over the last 15 years, he has invested in and served on the Boards of several other companies in Africa of which include Feronia Inc. (Democratic Republic of the Congo) and Flamingo Holding (Kenya).
In addition, Cashin serves on the Board of Visitors for Georgetown University’s Edmund A. Walsh School of Foreign Service and the Better Way Foundation. He previously served on the Board at the Jesuit Refugee Service/USA.
Cashin, whose father served as a U.S. foreign diplomat, was born in Africa. He began his career as a Peace Corps volunteer in Tanzania in 1979.
Mr. Cashin graduated from the School of Foreign Service at Georgetown University and earned his MBA from Boston College.
