Ag Safety Is Not Just a Slogan, It’s a Lifestyle
Grinnell, Iowa (PRWEB) September 18, 2015 -- Grinnell Mutual Reinsurance Company understands that farming isn’t just a job to our insureds — it’s way of life. We also believe that safety should always come first and be practiced every day. That’s why every year, Grinnell Mutual promotes National Farm Safety and Health Week, September 20–26. The theme this year is “Ag safety is not just a slogan, it’s a lifestyle.” As harvest season gets into full swing, some reminders about safe practices may help save a life. Grinnell Mutual has put together a library of articles and resources, including a PSA.
Farm safety resources
Grinnell Mutual has created a set of free resources, available on our website, about safe farm practices. We encourage you to read, watch, and share the information with a farmer you know. In addition to the video, you’ll find articles on a variety of farm safety topics:
Rural roads
At the end of the growing season, when full-grown cornstalks can hide unmarked intersections, be especially alert as you drive rural roads.
Health
By inspecting equipment, taking breaks, and knowing your limits, you can ensure a safe harvest on your farm.
Children
Harvest time brings all ages to the farm. Whether children come for a visit or to help with the work, farm owners should speak with them and their parents and set expectations to prevent accidents.
Confined spaces
Confined spaces like grain bins and manure pits have dangers that farmers should avoid or limit exposure to.
Sharing the road
As farmers fill grain bins at harvest, they also fill roads with tractors, combines, and other equipment.
