AgCarolina Farm Credit Awards Funds to Eastern North Carolina Programs
Raleigh, NC (PRWEB) December 17, 2015 -- AgCarolina Farm Credit announces over $31,000 in grants have been extended to sixteen organizations through the corporate-giving program, the Fund for Rural North Carolina. The grants will aid recipients in carrying out programs specifically benefiting farmers and rural residents in eastern North Carolina.
Grants up to $3,000 per organization were awarded at a reception held at Rose Hill Plantation in Nashville, NC in one of the four focus areas of Education, Environment, Technology, or Quality of Rural Life to the following organizations:
• Bakertown Volunteer Fire Department - Funds for pagers and turnout gear.
• Camden Middle School FFA - Funds for students to become involved in FFA program by paying state and national dues for all students.
• Corinth Holders High School FFA - Funds to continue livestock show team by purchasing materials for use at the on-campus barn facility for students to have hands-on learning for the growing animal science enrollment.
• Dream Hunt and Fish Program - Funds to upgrade mobile Wildlife Education trailer
• ECU – NC Agromedicine Institute – Funds for educational opportunity for 200 FFA students in AgCarolina area to learn about safety on farms.
• Food Bank of the Albemarle - Assistance to pay for transportation, handling, and processing costs associated with Hunter for the Hungry program.
• Kinston High School Agriculture - Funds to purchase and install a hydroponic system to grow leaf lettuce, providing hands-on experience for students to apply concepts that will help them better understand agriculture.
• Lenoir County Cooperative Extension - Funds to purchase equipment available for producers to borrow, including a livestock trailer, portable head gate, portable scales, and a portable corral system.
• Martin County 4-H - Aid for the livestock program to provide updates to the show with better and safer facilities to house animals.
• Martin County 4-H – Funds to purchase 4-H classroom curriculum to teach youth about the importance of agriculture in their lives.
• Millbrook FFA Alumni - Expanding the production of edible plants and the growing facilities by adding a hydroponics growing system to allow hands-on experience for students.
• Rocking Horse Ranch Therapeutic Riding Program - Funding of scholarships to support lesson fees for financially needy prospective riding students. Organization supports children and adults with physical, cognitive, and psychological disabilities.
• South Granville High School FFA - Funds for a small barn facility to enhance the livestock component of the curriculum and for career development training and practice.
• Southern Nash FFA - Funds to attend the NC FFA MEGA Conference
• Tobacco Farm Life Museum - Funds to purchase a tour guide audio system to improve the educational experience for visitors taking part in the guided group tours.
• Trenton Volunteer Fire Department - Funds to purchase two mobile radios.

Through this Fund, AgCarolina Farm Credit has impacted a broad spectrum of organizations by awarding over $300,000 to benefit the local rural and agricultural communities of Eastern North Carolina.
