According to a recent study published in Environmental Science & Technology, infant and toddlers in the U.S. are likely being exposed to potentially harmful ingredients called parabens and phthalates through a variety of personal care products. Researchers collected 170 samples of makeup, lotions, shampoos, and other products, including 20 for babies, and tested them for nine phthalates and six parabens. The results showed phthalate concentrations were low, but parabens were common. Most strikingly, researchers found exposure levels to parabens could be as much as two to three times higher in children than adult women. “Parabens are used as a preservative in many cosmetics and anti-aging hair products,” says Dr. Kevin J.
